Jean Seaton, Professor of Media History at the University of Westminster, appeared on the BBC West Midlands’ Danny Kelly podcast talking about who to trust with news in the age of ‘fake news’.

In her interview, Professor Seaton gave examples of reliable sources and particularly mentioned the BBC and Sky News, perceived as relatively balanced and regulated broadcasters.

She also explained: “The problem is if people interfere like the Russians have on the US and UK elections by endorsing people on Facebook and putting pieces of distorted news, the public cannot see that happening and that’s very alarming.”

She concluded: “We need our authorities to act so fiercely and we need to back them in that, because how we live depends on them doing that.”
