Dr Paul Breen, Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, gave an interview for BBC Business Live, where he emphasised the importance of the invisible border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Dr Paul Breen noted it is essential that a detailed plan for ‘seamless and frictionless transition’ is in place before Brexit happens on 29 March 2017.

Asked what the potential effect of a ‘hard’ border would be, Dr Breen explained: “There are at least 30,000 people who travel across the border back and forward every day for work. There is the business impact as well because Northern Ireland relies very heavily on its trade with the Republic and vice versa, so it’s completely essential that there is free movement of both goods and people. Otherwise, we are going to end up in a very chaotic situation.”
