Dr Shirley J Thompson, Composer and Reader in Composition and Performance at the University of Westminster, was featured among eight successful British women speaking about the commemoration of women winning the right to vote in 1918.

The film features eight influential British women speaking about some of the most important milestones in the UK since women won the right to vote 100 years ago.

Alongside seven successful women Shirley J Thompson described how she became the first woman in Europe to have composed and conducted a symphony within the past 40 years in 2004.

Shirley was also recently interviewed on the SOAS Radio ‘A World in London’ podcast to talk about what it takes to compose a symphony.
