Applications now open for University Social Media Ambassadors for 2025/26 academic year

The University of Westminster has opened applications for their Social Media Ambassador Scheme. The programme offers students the opportunity to develop skills in creating engaging social media content about life at Westminster, while gaining valuable paid work experience in a flexible part-time role.

Last year, 55 Westminster students got involved with the scheme, creating over 180 pieces of student-led video content for the University’s social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok, gaining around 5.7 million impressions.

The Social Media Ambassador (SMA) Scheme allows students who are passionate about their course as well as their University life to express their interests through the University’s social media channels. It is a community of students across all levels and courses who are confident and comfortable with being present on social media as well as producing their own videos and other content.

One ambassador, Rana Omrani, is in her final year studying Business Management (Marketing) BA Honours. She has been an SMA for two years and has just completed an internship within the Westminster Business School’s Marketing Team.

As a SMA she has showcased the student lifestyle, London living, activities in London and the daily life as a Westminster student. The scheme gave her the chance to attend and cover a variety of events, enhancing not only her social media skills but allowing her to grow as an ambassador, helping her to secure her Marketing internship. Her content has resonated with a wide audience across social media channels, with one TikTok garnering an impressive 1.9 million views.

About the scheme Rana said: “Being an SMA has allowed me to connect, create and grow within the vibrant Westminster community, transforming my student experience and shaping my future career. Meeting people from all walks of life made me feel truly integrated into the Westminster community, and I particularly enjoyed connecting with current and prospective students to build meaningful connections.”

Milly Gilmore, Social Media Manager at the University and organiser of the scheme, added: “I’m so proud to see our Social Media Ambassador group grow and evolve each year, giving even more students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in content creation. Each year, the quality of student content improves. Students are not just making videos, they’re capturing their authentic experience at Westminster while learning how to create visually engaging content for a brand. It’s more than a side hustle now. It’s a paid working opportunity to build confidence, creativity and digital skills that students can showcase in their portfolios.”

The scheme directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfill their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
