Professor Dibyesh Anand, Head of Department of Politics and International Relations, recently gave an interview to Al Jazeera commenting on the Indian Prime Minister’s first historic visit to Israel.

Following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Israel on 4 July, Professor Anand said: “This visit is a shift in the Indian policies towards Palestine and Israel. What Narendra Modi is doing is sending a clear message that India wants to work more closely with Israel. Modi belongs to Hindu’s Nationalist party which is, of course, strongly in power and which have had a long term policy of wanting to work more closely not only with Israel but also with the US.”

He added: “For the US, a strong support of Modi includes the rich Indian Saudi diaspora and they work very closely with the pro-Israel lobby in the US, in this sense, we are dealing with something that is a combination of both shifting domestic policies of India and foreign policies towards the Right.”
