AHRC Research Preparation Masters Studentship:
MA Architecture and Digital Media
MA Cultural Identity and Globalisation
MA Interior Design
Fee Waiver: 1 Year, full time
The School of Architecture and the Built Environment at Westminster (SABE) is widely recognised as an important centre for practice based research in architecture. The national research assessment exercise (RAE) conducted in 2008 placed us in the top 10 architectural departments in the UK in terms of research performance. We also submitted by far the highest proportion of practice-based outputs, reflecting the School’s leading position in this evolving area.
Of SABE’s 40 PhD students more than half are in architecture, and of these half are employing practice-based methods. Westminster is amongst the few architectural schools in Britain that has been actively developing a PhD by design route with expertise and the potential to support research in a wide range of areas.
Eligible candidates will hold a good first degree in architecture or a related discipline and will be able to demonstrate the intention to continue with their research at PhD. A relevant connection with the UK is also required, normally consisting of a minimum of three years residence for purposes other than education.
Prospective students will need to be accepted on one of the Architecture department’s MA programmes and should apply for an appropriate course in the usual manner. In addition candidates wishing to be considered for the studentship should contact Richard Difford ([email protected]), indicating the course to which they have applied and providing a short statement outlining their research interests.
The closing date for applications is Friday 29 July 2011
This studentship is funded under the AHRC’s Block Grant Partnership (CB) with the University of Westminster. For further information, please visit:
