University of Westminster ranked among top 100 most international universities in the world

14 January 2016

The University of Westminster has been named one of the top 100 international universities in the world, and among the top 10 in London, following the release of the Times Higher Education's global university rankings.

With a strong strategic focus on internationalisation, a rich pool of global partnerships, a 5,600-strong international student body from six continents and international staff members from 81 countries, Westminster takes the 99th place on the Times Higher Education's 2016 list of the 200 most international universities across the globe. At the University of Westminster one in five undergraduate students and one in three postgraduate students are from an international background, contributing to a diverse and vibrant learning environment.

The Times Higher Education list is the most comprehensive global university rankings. The results are compiled using the international outlook indicator in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-16. The measure considers each institution's proportion of international staff, proportion of international students and proportion of research papers published with at least one co-author from another country.

Phil Baty, Times Higher Education World University Rankings Editor, said: "An institution's global outlook is one of the key markers of a prestigious university. The top institutions hire faculty from all over the world, attract students from a global market of top talent and collaborate with leading departments wherever they happen to be based.

"All institutions in this list deserve to celebrate – being named one of the most international universities in the world is a sign of great potential, competitiveness and dynamism."

Professor Alexandra Hughes, Deputy Vice–Chancellor for Global Engagement at the University of Westminster, said: "A highly internationalised community of students and staff, the University of Westminster is strongly committed to global engagement in all the core areas of our activity. A global outlook lies at the heart of our institution, and we are very pleased to feature on the list of most international universities compiled by the THE."

Internationalisation is central to the University's strategic vision and identity. Westminster has extensive connections with universities and industries throughout the world and our global engagement strategy seeks to strengthen and deepen those connections ever further. Our international partnerships support the development of our academic and research portfolios. Experiences that enable our staff and students to operate in an increasingly interconnected, internationalised world are key to our approach.
