Who we are
The Faith and Spirituality team are here to encourage all students and colleagues to explore their sense of spiritual wellbeing as part of an authentic learning and working experience. We offer space to contemplate together in the spirit of openness, honesty and accountability on an occasional or regular basis, especially in times of difficulty.
Our team is composed of an Interfaith Adviser, and a number of volunteer Associate Chaplains who support faith-based student groups. The Interfaith Advice office is at Marylebone Campus, room B202.
Spiritual and pastoral support
Our spiritual and pastoral support appointments are available for you to discuss any personal issues that are affecting your life, studies or work. In these sessions, you're welcomed to share your thoughts, feelings and associations in relation with the world and ideas around your faith, culture, relationships or the turbulent times in which we are living.
Meditation and mindfulness support
Student Mindfulness Programme
We run separate programmes for students and colleagues. They are for anyone who would like to begin exploring or continue improving their skills in everyday awareness and practices in body, breath and spirit. The sessions involve an inclusive meditation and often a particular theme on which to focus. While spiritual, they're not aligned with any one faith tradition.
How we can help
During this demanding time we are offering one-to-one pastoral and spiritual support appointments in person on campus, online or by phone. We usually have good availability and can often arrange time with you at short notice, including out of hours.
Religious observance dates
The University’s Religious Observance Calendar identifies principal religious festivals on which certain University activities should be avoided. These are dates on which it would be unreasonable to expect a follower of the recognised religion to engage with learning and teaching opportunities or assessment requirements.
More information can be found in our Religion, Belief and Study Policy:
To check the dates of principal religious festivals for the current and next academic year, visit our Religious observance dates page.
Contemplation and prayer rooms
As part of the University's support for holistic wellbeing there are prayer and contemplation spaces located across all our campuses. Students, colleagues and visitors of 'all faiths and none' are invited to use these spaces according to their practice.
Please note:
- No personal or shared items can be left in these spaces, and so users are requested that if they need to bring their own prayer carpets, meditation cushions or other items, they take them away when finished. All items left in the spaces will be removed. Also, no posters, leaflets etc are permitted inside the spaces.
