As the darkness deepens, Iranians come together to celebrate the rebirth of the sun and the triumph oflight over darkness. Friends and family gather, often at elders' homes, to revel in the season's festivities. Nuts and fruits adorn tables, and the light of flickering candles recites Hafiz's poems.
