Westminster International Relations Forum, Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR), University of Westminster, invites you for the following Seminar.
Date and Time: Wednesday 3 March 2010 6-7.30pm
Venue: Westminster Forum, 5th floor, 32-38 Wells Street, London W1T 3UW
Speaker: Dr Simona Manea
Title: "A critique of the anthropomorphic conception of the state: the state as a relational and emergent network actor"
Currently, a Teaching Fellow at UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies, Dr Manea has a PhD from LSE. Her thesis examined the conceptualisation of states as network actors. The talk is going to look at this theoretical argument. It reflects a broader interest in the question of space in international politics - the theoretical shifts in the understandings of space, their impact on conceptualising political actors, and the normative, methodological and policy consequences of deciding the boundaries of social spaces.
The event is open to all staff and students (postgraduates and undergraduates) of the University of Westminster. Those not affiliated with the university are also welcome to attend. Please circulate this email to your colleagues, students and friends. There is no need to RSVP. The seminar will be chaired by Dr Thomas Moore.
