Westminster Students sat around table talking

Open to all Social Sciences staff and students.

This talk presents findings from a qualitative study examining meltdowns in autistic adults - an under-researched but increasingly recognised phenomenon. We analysed tens of thousands of words contributed by autistic adults describing their experiences before, during, and after meltdowns. The research considers implications for diagnosis, support strategies, workplace and educational accommodations, and future research priorities. The session will also invite audience reflection on the interpretation of the data and on explanatory models of why meltdowns occur. Attendees can expect a data-driven, person-centred exploration aimed at improving understanding and practical responses to meltdowns in autistic adults.
