The League of Arab States (LAS) will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding in March 2015 at a time of unprecedented turbulence in the region. While the LAS briefly emerged as a powerful entity during the Libyan crisis (and the early phase of the Syrian crisis), it has faded since then, overtaken by the powerful Gulf states - also facing uncertain prospects.

Dr Silvia Feraboli, author of Arab regionalism: a post-structural perspective, (Routledge Studies in Middle Eastern Politics October 14, 2014) will explore the challenges facing this pioneer regional organisation, launched a few months before the United Nations and a decade before comparable European bodies, but now beset by problems.
