In her inaugural lecture, Professor Catherine O’Connor will cover her own journey from industry to academia, noting key milestones in her initial career as a journalist that have shaped her approach to leadership in education over the last 20 years.
She will explore addressing challenges arising from the space where theory and practice meet, how disciplines interact with the employability and skills agenda and the importance of student voice at the heart of navigating a path forward.
Drawing on two decades of experience of bringing industry into education, leading work to prepare students for life beyond their degree studies and working co-creatively with students, she will reflect on the importance of collaboration, openness and responsiveness in meeting the challenges facing higher education and in supporting student success.
