This paper presents findings from the Food and Communities strand of the Cavendish Living Lab project at the University of Westminster. Drawing on focus groups with diverse migrant and diasporic communities in London, including Korean, Caribbean, Italian, Chinese, Alevi and Jewish groups, it explores cultural food practices that promote sustainability through low-waste cooking, preservation and adaptation. The paper argues that food practices are also sites of identity formation, belonging and exclusion, revealing how migration reshapes relationships between people, place, culture and community in a global city.
