Wishing our community celebrating Nowruz time for rejuvenation and renewal

The University of Westminster wishes a joyous Nowruz celebration to all our students, colleagues, alumni and friends.

Nowruz, meaning “new day” in Persian, is a springtime festival celebrated by millions across Central Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. Marking the arrival of spring, it symbolises renewal, rebirth, and peace. Observed as the New Year in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and several other countries, Nowruz is a time for celebration and new beginnings.

Each year, Nowruz aligns with the vernal equinox, which is one of two moments in the year when the Sun is exactly above the Equator and day and night are of equal length; this year aligning on Friday 20 March.

As a Baha’i holy day, Nowruz (the Baha’i New Year) is celebrated in many different ways across many regions, including work and school are suspended to meet for prayer and to celebrate with family gatherings, feasts, gift exchanging and more, with many symbolisms including the use of fire to represent  the triumph of good over evil.

The University of Westminster wishes much happiness to all of our students, colleagues, alumni and friends celebrating.
