Wishing our community celebrating a Happy Thanksgiving

Westminster wishes a very happy Thanksgiving to all our students, colleagues, alumni and friends who are celebrating today.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday that is traditionally celebrated in the USA on the fourth Thursday in November, falling on Thursday 27 November 2025.

The holiday is also celebrated on various dates in various other countries, including Canada, Granada, St Lucia, and Liberia. It commemorates a time in 1621, when the English colonists, known as the ‘Pilgrims’, are thought to have shared a feast with the Wampanoag Native Americans, who had helped them survive their first winter in North America.

A Thanksgiving blessing for the harvest is a prayer of gratitude for the fruits of the earth, often asking for grace to use them wisely and compassionately. These blessings typically thank God for the harvest and the ability to provide for others, and may include themes of sharing, caring for the environment, and remembering those in need.

The University of Westminster wishes a very happy Thanksgiving to all our students, colleagues, alumni and friends who are celebrating.
