Work with fellow students and academics from across the University on research tackling global challenges, while gaining skills, experience and academic credit to boost your CV.

The Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation in partnership with the Sustainability Team are pleased to launch Vertically Integrated Projects for Sustainable Development from January 2026 as University-wide electives.
What are Vertically Integrated Projects (VIPs)?
VIPs are innovative 20-credit modules that enable students to collaborate with peers and academic staff on research projects aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). "Vertical" indicates that students from different levels are working together. VIPs are also most often horizontally integrated, bringing together students from different disciplines.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Work in a team with students from different courses and levels
- Be offered a choice of exciting projects to work on
- Attend key meetings at our new Zone29 building at Marylebone Campus
- Continue with VIPs throughout your studies – if you take part in Year 1, you can also take part in Years 2 and 3
Your timetable will vary depending on your year of study:
- Year 1 – take part in Semester 2, with weekly meetings.
- Years 2 and 3 – take part across both Semesters 1 and 2 with meetings every two weeks.
How to take part?
To join, you will need to register for a Vertically Integrated Project as an elective module.
VIPs are offered at levels 4, 5, and 6, each with varying levels of challenge:
- Level 4 - Vertically Integrated Projects 1 (4WSEL025W)
- Level 5 - Vertically Integrated Projects 2 (5WSEL025W)
- Level 6 - Vertically Integrated Projects 3 (6WSEL025W)
Your Module Tutor will explain how to choose your specific project after registration.
VIPs will be available for Level 4 students only from January 2026. VIPs will also be open to students at Levels 5 and 6 from September 2026.
