The University wishes Eid Mubarak ahead of Eid to all of our students, colleagues, alumni and friends who will be celebrating.

Eid al-Fitr or Festival of Breaking the Fast, is a religious celebration observed by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the month-long dawn to sunset observance of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.

Eid al-Fitr is usually marked by attending a morning prayer in one’s finest clothes, and it can last for up to three days or an entire month depending on different cultures and countries.

Eid al-Fitr 2023 in the UK has been confirmed to begin at sunset on Tuesday 9 April and will carry on throughout Wednesday 10 April. However, some Muslims may begin celebrations a day later.

Ramadan Celebrations at Westminster…

We ran many Ramadan events in March for our community to attend, including our Welcoming Ramadan event as part of the World in Westminster Café series and Iftar’s, where Muslim students and colleagues came together to talk about their favourite parts of this spiritual time. Attendees listened to nasheeds, enjoyed delicious food from all over the world, heard about the origins of the month and took part in our Ramadan quiz.
