New vape recycling bins have been installed at Marylebone, Harrow and Cavendish campuses to boost the University’s recycling rates to its goal of 60% by 2027/28.

Did you know that vapes cannot be disposed of in general waste or recycling bins?
This is because they can start fires and cause explosions in waste facilities. Vapes and e-cigarettes therefore need to be disposed of safely in a separate waste stream.
Rechargeable vape pods, old disposable vapes, and e-cigarette batteries can be disposed of in our new vape bins. Refillable vapes and e-cigarettes are designed so that the battery can be removed and recycled easily by our waste providers. Please continue to use the designated battery bins for standard alkaline batteries found in office equipment (e.g. Duracell).
If you are not on campus, all retailers that sell vapes should offer a vape take-back service, so please use these to recycle used vapes.
The University wishes to promote cleaner air, discourage nicotine addiction, and protect those with a sensitivity to environmental irritants.
