At Westminster, sustainable development is one of the three underpinning priorities that guide everything we do – alongside wellbeing and inclusion – as set out in our Being Westminster strategy. This commitment informs how we operate across the University: from embedding the Sustainable Development Goals in all of our courses’ teaching and assessment, to managing and maintaining our campuses – or from our work on inclusion, to our research and knowledge exchange endeavours – and much more.
As part of this wider programme of activity, we have committed to deliver the UK’s first university-based Climate Assembly from January 2026 – and we need your participation to ensure it reflects the input and ideas of our entire Westminster community.
What is the University of Westminster Climate Assembly?
The Climate Assembly will bring together a representative group of students and colleagues to answer the question: ‘How can the University and its community take forward meaningful action on climate change in a way that helps make the University a great place to study and work?’
Who can take part?
The assembly is open to everyone – students and colleagues, on all campuses.
You don’t need any prior knowledge. We will give you the information you need at the assembly sessions, in enjoyable, accessible and easy-to-digest ways.
We are equally keen to hear from people who don’t feel informed about climate change and its impacts, people who do, and people who haven’t considered it in depth.
How are we making it accessible to everyone?
If you are a student, we will pay you £400 towards your time. We will also cover travel expenses and costs related to any caring responsibilities, as well as helping you get to the assembly sessions if you need support. We’re also committed to meeting any accessibility requirements, including providing translators.
When and where will it take place?
To ensure the assembly is a success for everyone, we ask all members to fully commit to attend and take part in all of the programme’s six sessions from January to March 2026 at the University on the following dates:
- Assembly 1: Wednesday 21 January, 2-6pm; Regent Campus
- Assembly 2: Wednesday 28 January, 2-6pm; Little Titchfield Street Site
- Assembly 3: Saturday 21 February, 11-5pm; Cavendish Campus
- Assembly 4: Wednesday 4 March, 2-6pm; Harrow Campus
- Assembly 5: Saturday 14 March, 11-5pm; Marylebone Campus
- Assembly 6: Wednesday 18 March, 2-6pm; Cavendish Campus
How can I get involved?
