About Black History Year

The University of Westminster’s Black History Year (BHY) showcases our commitment to Black lived and living experiences by reflecting the richness of our university – past and present.

It's a celebration of Black history, stories, lives, politics, creativity, and achievement. And it is a chance to learn from, and share space with, amazing Black historians, musicians, executives, writers, artists, thinkers, academics and our own alumni.

To this end, we seek to educate, enlighten, inspire and create community – in our organisation and beyond.

Black History Year Celebrates – Wednesday 14 October, 5:30pm to 8pm, Hideaway Regent Street campus

Join us for 'Black History Year Celebrates' – a vibrant evening marking Black History through music, culture, food and community.

WeNetwork: BAME founders' club – Tuesday 6 October, 2pm to 3:35pm, Zone29

This hands-on event will give you the opportunity to tackle your strengths and weaknesses head-on. We will have practical activities to get stuck into and build actionable strategies that suit your specific business needs.

Join Professor Myhaell Riley's inaugural lecture as he explores the culture of Black British music.

Black History Year: Rethinking disability – Wednesday 11 November, 6pm to 7:15pm, online session

How do everyday institutions shape what disability means, who is recognised and who belongs? This talk explores disability through an intersectional perspective, examining how race and gender influence how disabled people experience education, healthcare, employment and public services.
