World in Westminster Conversations: Supporting our refugee students

Event description

We are proud to introduce Sanctuary at Westminster, a new initiative dedicated to supporting and celebrating our refugee and displaced student community.

In collaboration with the World in Westminster series, we invite you to join us for our inaugural event. Our Sip & Paint launch afternoon uses the power of creative expression to connect cultures and experiences.

Whether you are far from home or have lived in London your whole life, this is a space to share stories, find common ground, and create something beautiful together. We’ll provide all the supplies and refreshments; no artistic "talent" is required, just an open heart.

We are encouraging students to establish a STAR (Student Action for Refugees) group here at Westminster. As a member of this advisory group (and national movement), you will work directly with staff to steer the Sanctuary initiative, ensuring our support services are designed by students, for students.

This event is organised by Dr Natasha Ramachandran, who leads the University Sanctuary group. If you are interested in joining the STAR group and would like to get in touch, please email her at [email protected].

About the Sanctuary at Westminster group

The Sanctuary group is a dedicated initiative which sits between the EDI programme and CETI and was established to champion Westminster’s long-standing mission of social mobility and inclusion. In an era of unprecedented global displacement, the group serves as a central hub to coordinate the university’s response, ensuring that students from forced migration backgrounds can access and graduate from higher education.
