Justin Bengry presents his video history project on ‘Queer Pandemic’, tracking the experience of COVID-19 in association with Queer Britain.

An image showing a grid of photographic portraits. Each grid is shaped as a hexagon, meaning the grid has the overall appearance of a honeycomb pattern. In each portrait, the person is looking directly at the camera and smiling. The overall image has a rainbow gradient colour overlay on top.

Queer Pandemic is a video-based oral history project aimed at collecting stories about the experiences of LGBTQ+ people living across the UK during the era of COVID-19. Focusing on cross-generational dialogue, the project aims to explore:

  • connections between the current pandemic and other crises experienced by LGBTQ+ people
  • how queer people’s lives and communities have been shaped and strengthened by individual and shared responses to COVID-19 and previous crises

The project is particularly interested in understanding how people have been impacted by COVID-19, how they have responded, what they have lost and what they have gained. The project utilises remote video technology in gathering these oral histories, which will become part of the Virtually Queer collection of the Queer Britain Museum.
