As part of the Black History Year programme, we are pleased to welcome Marie Gentles to speak about 'Retaining Black Students'.

This event will explore ways to support and empower Black students in education, aiming to create a safe space for open dialogue and collaboration.

Together, we will explore ways to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for Black students, ensuring their success and well-being throughout their academic journey.

About the speaker

Marie Gentles OBE grew up in East London in a large extended family that included fostered and adopted children. Today, she helps parents and professionals understand that children’s behaviour is a form of communication. Her innovative methods have been highly successful in improving behaviour and reducing permanent exclusions in schools. 

In recognition of her work, Marie was awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2020 for her services to education.
