The University of Westminster hosted the fourth annual women in property (WiP) speed interviewing and networking event for Property and Construction students. The event took place on Wednesday 21 January at the Marylebone campus - home to the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment.

The University welcomed some 30 delegates from industries including DTZ, Savills, EC Harris, Gerald Eve, Coutts, and City of London Corporation.

The event was attended by 50 students, and was aimed to provide them with the chance to develop their confidence by having the opportunity to practice interview questions with industry professionals from the property sector and gain invaluable feedback.

“The speed interviewing and networking event was a great opportunity for all property students to experience first-hand the dynamics and requirements of a graduate scheme interview, under an intense and pressurised atmosphere. The event enabled me to not only make crucial contacts in the property industry, but also provided me the opportunity to have my CV looked over and corrected by key property recruiters. Overall, I genuinely believe the event was immensely beneficial to not only me, but also to all those who attended, and I would further encourage all property students to attend in the future” said third year Property and Planning BSc Honours student Zainab Arshad.

The event was set up in a format similar to 'speed dating' where students spent a few minutes with each employer answering questions and gaining valuable feedback before moving onto the next.

The evening ended with networking over light refreshments where students were given the opportunity to speak with professionals considering the possibility for future opportunities for the right candidates.

“Volunteers from Women in Property and their wider network were impressed with the calibre and commitment demonstrated by the students as well as the record turnout. Not only were we able to pass on valuable feedback and insight but we enjoyed doing it as well” said Lisa-Jane Risk, National Vice Chairman of Women in Property and Head of Group Property at Towergate Insurance.

The event was jointly arranged by Women in Property (WiP) and the University’s Career Development Centre, and was featured in Property Week prior to the event taking place. The members from WIP and volunteers came from a range of organisations including Tower 8, Active FM, Rider Levett Bucknall, Purcell, Aukett Swanke, Howard Kennedy, London Borough of Southwark and Towergate Insurance.
