He gave students a fascinating off-the-cuff talk, about his previous career at the Public Record Office, his early interest in family history and his move into the media. He told many amusing stories about the show and its celebrity subjects, which sadly must remain under ‘Chatham House Rules’!
On a more serious note, he left students wondering about how contemporary technology will affect the work of future historians. When we only communicate via text, Twitter and email, where will anyone find ‘the record’? Or will the problem be, that there will be so much material, that the ‘truth’ will be undiscoverable?
