The University’s ‘What it Takes’ series kicked off on Tuesday 23 October with an event inviting alumna and business coach Sarah Bennett-Nash to discuss confidence-boosting strategies and how to create long-lasting behavioural change.

The series, organised by the University’s Alumni team, features successful Westminster alumni each month to inspire students and recent graduates and give them the opportunity to network with each other.

Sarah, a Law alumna, now serial entrepreneur, business coach, speaker and blogger, provided attendees with practical advice and tips on how to get the confidence to achieve personal and professional goals.

Through a personal and insightful approach, Sarah’s talk began with her journey and the leap of faith she took from the high-pressure environment of executive banking and finance, to a long-desired coaching course and setting up her own business.

Topics raised during the talk included confidence versus self-esteem, creating long-lasting behavioural change, confidence killers, and confidence boosting strategies.

At the end of the presentation the audience was able to ask Sarah questions in a Q&A session and during the post-event refreshments and networking time.

Sarah, who has coached entrepreneurs and employees from all over the world, said: “Confidence is not a personality trait, it is a skill. Believe in the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people – your success could very much depend on that.”

Talking about the event, she said: “What a wonderful evening. I would like to thank the University for inviting me to speak at the event. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I hope that the students did too. From the feedback I received we had some satisfied customers!”

The next in the ‘What It Takes’ event series, will feature Personal Management alumnus Adrian Thomas, Head of Executive Recruitment, Civil Service in ‘What it Takes to ace an interview’ on 6 November 2018.
