From 15-29 September, new and continuing students participated in a range of social events organised by the University of Westminster Students’ Union (UWSU) for the first two weeks of the academic year, including Arrival Fairs across the main University campuses.

Students enjoyed 20 events running over the 14 days to socialise and kick-start their University life, including Games night, UWSU sports night at the Undercroft and Movie Night. The events helped students to settle into the University experience and introduced them to the wide range of extracurricular activities available to them during Arrival Fairs.

The fairs took over four of the campuses on various dates for students to grab freebies, sign up to activities, meet all the student groups and get discounts and opportunities from a mix of companies on hand. They showcased existing societies, sports clubs and university services, and saw the introduction of new student societies, including the Environmental Society, the Mental Health Society, and the Spanish Speakers Society.

Lareb Naseem, President of the University of Westminster Students’ Union, said: “Our Freshers Fair was an absolute blast this year, we engaged with huge amounts of students across our fairs and induction talks. The four Fairs we ran were full of fun, excitement and we received an overall positive feedback from students and staff involved. If you didn’t get a chance to make one of our fairs, it’s never too late to get involved with the Students’ Union. Check out our website to see a full list of all our students’ groups that you can get involved with!”

Dr Peter Bonfield, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said: “It was very encouraging to feel the energy across our campuses rising as our new students enrolled. I’m very happy to be part of such a welcoming community and I’m sure our new students will be, too. Thanks to all the teams involved in making sure our students have the best experience possible here at Westminster.”

The Students’ Union is an independent organisation run by students for students, who become members automatically when they enrol. It keeps a calendar of social events and activities, as well as protects students’ rights and represents them when key decisions are made at the University. Operating over all four campuses, students and staff can drop in or contact them for general enquiries on their contact us page.
