A celebration of the creative arts, the Westminster POP UP will bring together eight students and graduates and will provide them with the unique opportunity to showcase their talents in the middle of Central London between 9-15 December.

Run by the University of Westminster’s Creative Enterprise Centre (CEC), the POP UP is a selling exhibition that will incorporate a curation of limited edition fashion, crafts, photography, prints and graphic design in a maximalist celebration. Layering colour, print and texture in its presentation of the work, it is meant to be a complete antithesis to a normal minimalist gallery presentation.

In its first edition, the POP UP initiative is a pioneering enterprise and experiential learning project which aims to support and showcase the University’s creative entrepreneurs. With the opportunity to commission bespoke pieces, the initiative is an alternative destination gallery this Christmas. All the purchases will go to the exhibiting emerging creative entrepreneurs and support them in their craft and businesses.

Shiela Birungi, Manager at the Creative Enterprise Centre and Student Entrepreneurship Programme at the University, commented: “The Westminster Pop Up Project is a showcase of the potential and brilliance of the University’s Creative Entrepreneurs. Part of the Creative Enterprise Centre – entrepreneurship accelerator programme, the project was initiated to support students and graduates to develop and action their entrepreneurship competencies, and accelerate their progress in building and launching viable and successful businesses.”

The entrepreneurs showcasing at the Westminster POP UP 2018 are photographers Charlie Hanley and Chloe Hughes, fashion designers Mekala Fuller, Gea Myllynen and Manon Planche, textile artist Yohana Puleva, illustrator Sarah Elliott and men’s apparel designer Muzafar Tufail.

In the lead up to the event, the participating students and graduates were encouraged to develop their entrepreneurship attributes and grow their brands and businesses. They received a grant of £250 to develop and a year’s membership of Creative Entrepreneurs.

Supported by the CEC’s entrepreneurship accelerator programme, selected participants enrolled into a preparatory accelerator programme of workshops and one-to-one advisory appointments with experts.

Launching on Sunday 9 November, the POP UP is open for all members of the project. It will also hold a Private View on Monday 10 December, a Friends and Family Night on Tuesday 11 December and a Late Night Shopping Event on Thursday 13 December.
