VFiles is known for its too-cool-for-school bubble, creating a scene for fashion designers, musicians, and artists to shine, support each other, and collaborate. The VFiles team had some help narrowing down their candidates from industry mentors, including Italo Zucchelli (the creative director of Calvin Klein menswear), as well as stylist (and frequent Vcontributor) Mel Ottenberg, among others.
The five designers chosen this year are eligible to be part of the VFiles Showroom, which acts as a brand incubator, helping young designers sell and promote their label. Past designers have included Australia label Di$count Univer$e, whose clothing has since been seen on Rihanna, and on Madonna in her 'Bitch, I’m Madonna' video, proving that a little bit of help goes a long way in this difficult industry.
Course Director Andrew Groves said “This is fantastic news, and confirmation of David’s unique fashion vision and his dedication to creating such amazingly sculptured dresses, mixed with some stunning couture beading and detailing.”
David told American Vogue: “As a newcomer in this competitive industry, having the opportunity to just have a profile on VFiles is amazing exposure. The feedback I’ve had since creating my profile has exceeded my expectations. Having a platform that links like-minded people is like a burst of confidence, and as a young business, the opportunity to showcase in New York is incredible.”
The show will take place on 9 September at Spring Studios in New York City.
