Our Purchasing and Supply Chain Management MSc students presented a project to Royal Mail representatives on Friday 6 February 2015.

Roger Hassan, Plant Manager at the Royal Mail National Distribution Centre, said that he wanted to exploit the specific subject knowledge of our students. They were set the problem of increasing the efficiency of cross-docking procedures at the Royal Mail’s Princess Royal Distribution Centre.

Our students worked closely with Maureen Wankiju, Network Optimisation Manager at Royal Mail, and took a number of visits to the distribution centre to help understand the context of their problem, an experience that they found particularly helpful.

According to our student Niccolo Berti, the positive outcome of the project was achieved through comparing ideas with other peers, as well as through gaining practical experience and insider's perspective from the Royal Mail.

This project highlights the importance of collaboration between our students, the University and industry.
