Professor Alison Rieple at Westminster Business School was a panelist at the Chartered Association of Business School’s debate on interdisciplinary research at the British Academy last week.

The summit brings together funders and researchers a range of disciplines to discuss how interdisciplinary research is funded, how and where to publish, how to approach collaboration and how it might be assessed in the Research Excellence Framework 2020 (REF2020).

A recent review of university research funding by Lord Nicholas Stern highlighted the need to break down research silos and improve the UK’s performance in innovative research that crosses disciplinary boundaries.

Alison was part of the panel that discussed how the challenges for interdisciplinary researchers of the systematic bias of 'excellence-based' journal rankings can be addressed for single-discipline research. She was joined by fellow panellists Dr Lisa Colledge, Director or Research Metrics at Elsevier, and Professor Steven J Perkins, Professorial Research Fellow at London Metropolitan University.

Alison Rieple is Professor at the Department of Marketing and Business Strategy and Director of the Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship and Strategy Research Group (IDEaS).
