Last week in Bangkok, the University of Westminster signed its first memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Thammasat University. This MOU will allow us to develop new partnership activities in Thailand and enter a new phase of engagement with leading Thai higher education institutions.

This phase of engagement has already begun, as colleagues from each faculty were able to initiate or continue discussions with their counterparts in Thammasat to identify specific areas for collaboration.

Professor Alexandra Hughes, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement, led the Westminster delegation, which included Professor Kerstin Mey Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Westminster School of Media, Arts and Design; Faculty Internationalisation Directors Dr Nancy Stevenson, Patrick Lees, Dr Peter Catterall and Jon Pike; and Polly Lu, Recruitment Officer for SE Asia.

In addition to having well-established university connections in Thailand, Westminster has a substantial community of alumni and current Thai students. The University delegation met with a group of alumni, as well as visiting the British Council.

Internationalisation is central to the University’s strategic vision and identity. We have extensive connections with universities and industries throughout the world and our global engagement strategy seeks to strengthen and deepen those connections ever further. Our international partnerships support the development of our academic and research portfolios. Experiences that enable our staff and students to operate in an increasingly interconnected, internationalised world are key to our approach.
