The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), was brought in to look specifically at teaching quality, the learning environment and student outcomes.

The United Kingdom has one of the best higher education offerings in the world, ranked third in the U21 2017 Global Rankings. This is, in part, due to the quality measures put in place by the UK government that all UK Universities adhere to.

In 2017 a new quality measurement, The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), was brought in to look specifically at teaching quality, the learning environment and student outcomes. We are pleased to say that the University of Westminster has been rated Bronze against the TEF measures, meaning that “based on the evidence available, the TEF Panel judged that the University of Westminster delivers teaching, learning and outcomes for its students that meet rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education.”

The TEF uses data gathered in the National Student Survey (NSS), the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey and from HESA, the experts in UK Higher Education Data to create the rating.

The University of Westminster is an inclusive community that embraces equality and diversity and has a deep commitment to providing the best learning and teaching experience for all of our students. Since we submitted our TEF metrics at the end of 2016 we have achieved significant improvements in our graduate employment results, seeing an 11 per cent rise in the proportion of employed full-time, first degree, UK graduates who are in professional or managerial level employment.

We are in the process of updating our strategy for the future of the university and delivering high-quality teaching and creating an outstanding student experience and outcomes for our students remains at the heart of our offering as an institution. Already in that process we have committed to the new assessment and feedback policy to guarantee that all students receive clear and timely feedback within 15 days of the assessment date and have introduced personal academic tutors to support our students through their studies.

Students already at Westminster can expect to enjoy a diverse and inclusive university community, that is committed to providing you with the best learning experience, career support and development through our industry links and work experience placements and personal development through our study abroad and volunteering opportunities.”
