Taught at the Westminster School of Media, Arts and Design, the Menswear MA will look to recruit ambitiously envisioned designers to work on their creative expression through personal research, process development and informed professionalism.
Delivered by some of the most inspiring and informed menswear design professionals such as Course Director Ike Rust, who was the previous Head of Menswear at the Royal College of Art, and Simon Foxton, one of Britain’s leading menswear stylists, the course team will provide a challenging, yet supportive learning environment for students.
The Menswear MA students will be based in facilities similar to those of the School’s Fashion Design BA Honours course, which were ranked the best in the world in the 2015 Business of Fashion Global Fashion School Rankings. The course will be split between a formative first year, during which students are not graded, and a summative second year, in which they will be marked.
Through self-directed and set projects students will generate original and contextualised ideas, technique and process that establish them as influential and informed menswear design professionals capable of working at the highest levels of the international menswear and design related industry.
In order to define a sustainable career path and influence the fashion industry, the boundaries of which are subject to social, economic, cultural and technological flux, it is important for our students to establish their aspirations within the global design context.
The University of Westminster has an outstanding reputation for developing highly talented and original fashion graduates. Our alumni include Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative Officer of Burberry; Katie Hillier, Creative Director for Hillier Bartley; Michael Herz, Artistic Director of DVF; and Jutta Kraus, Creative Director of Bernhard Willhelm.
In recent years we have also produced a new wave of designers who showed at London Fashion Week including Claire Barrow, Ashley Williams, Liam Hodges, Louise Alsop and Mary Benson.
The open days for the Menswear MA course will take place on Friday 12 February and Friday 4 March 2016 at the University of Westminster’s Harrow Campus, home to the Westminster School of Media, Arts and Design. Find out more about upcoming postgraduate information evenings.
