Waseem Hussain, Westminster Digital Marketing Management MSc alumnus, has shared industry insights to Westminster students. During the session he spoke about his experience in digital marketing and discussed how social media strategies are applied in real business environments

Taking place on 2 March at Westminster’s Marylebone Campus, this was the second guest lecture Waseem has given to Westminster Business School students participating on its Social Media Marketing module with a mix of participants from over ten courses.
As a Digital Marketing Executive at DNA Vetcare Group, Waseem discussed with students practical case studies and highlighted how digital marketing tools such as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Per Per Click (PPC) and social media can help businesses grow and connect with their audiences. The group then had the chance to ask questions and get advice on how to progress into their future careers.
During his final semester at Westminster, Waseem secured a part-time role as a Marketing Intern at DNA Vetcare Group with support from the University’s careers services. He graduated in 2023 and quickly transitioned from the internship to a full-time Digital Marketing Executive position.
About his time at Westminster he said: “The hands-on experience I gained during my studies, along with the opportunity to work part-time in my final semester, helped me transition smoothly into a full-time role after graduation. The University also provided access to excellent employability resources such as the Engage portal, Student Circus and other career support platforms, which were very helpful in finding suitable opportunities.
“My time at the University of Westminster was a fantastic experience. It felt like being part of a supportive community, with excellent professors and access to a wide range of facilities and opportunities.”

One student attending the guest lecture, Salvatore Vizzini, said: "Waseem's session was incredibly helpful because it showed us that digital marketing isn't just about selling, but also about building a community based on trust. The real added value was seeing the actual tools and content strategies he uses on a daily basis, which made his role much more tangible. His lecture provided me with excellent practical insights that I will take forward into my future career."
Waseem added: “During my presentation, I was particularly impressed by the students’ confidence and engagement. Each time I visit the University of Westminster, I come across some truly bright minds in the classroom.
“The Q&A session was especially rewarding, as many students asked thoughtful and critical questions, which really demonstrated their interest and active participation in the session.”
Dr Maria Bortnovskaya, module leader for the Social Media Marketing module, added: "It’s always inspiring to see a former student, who has already built a successful career, return to share their industry experience. Waseem’s insights from DNA Vetcare highlighted how effective digital marketing strategies can drive real business growth, giving our students invaluable practical learning. We are also proud to connect current students with industry practitioners, helping them apply their learning beyond the classroom and build their professional networks."
