Green Impact is an environmental accreditation programme with an awards element, designed to encourage, support and celebrate departments in making environmental improvements. Interested staff and students volunteer to participate in the programme and receive a workbook outlining achievable environmental changes. All the criteria relate to practical actions, such as only using recycled copier paper, or putting awareness stickers next to light switches.
Depending on the number of environmental actions carried out, departments can achieve either a bronze, silver or gold accreditation. All departments participating in Green Impact will need an audit to verify their level of achievement…and this is where you come in!
We are looking for volunteer auditors to visit the departments and conduct audits. Each volunteer auditor will be given a half-day of training on the criteria and what they need to audit. Auditors will then complete one or more audit, working in pairs. An audit should take between one and two hours to complete depending on the size of the department.
The audits will be taking place on the 18 and 19 of March - you only need to be available on one of those days. We will need you to attend the full day of training from 9.30am-5pm (although you will most probably finish earlier than 5). A tasty lunch is provided!
This is very valuable experience for your employability, so if you have lectures on one or both of these days we would recommend asking your lecturers in advance to take the time off. The sustainability team can provide a written letter for you to email to your lecturers as evidence.
What skills do I need?
No technical knowledge is needed! Full training will be provided - all you need is an interest in environmental issues. Please get in touch if you’re eager to get involved with Green Impact in an auditing capacity, or if you have any further questions.
