After it emerged that social network Facebook is using a simple two-question survey to gauge users' trust in publications, Professor Christian Fuchs lent his academic expertise to comment on the matter for The Telegraph.

Adding to prevailing criticism that the survey is overly-simple and vulnerable to being manipulated, Christian Fuchs, Professor of Social Media at the University of Westminster, said: "Determining the credibility of news items on Facebook by a user-survey is just an attempt to crowdsource the difficult and complex work of fact-checking.

"You need professionals for doing this. Facebook just wants to avoid investing significant amounts of money into fact-checking and to make real changes to its algorithms."
