Professor Steven Barnett, Professor of Communications at the Westminster School of Media and Communication, wrote an article for The Conversation discussing the Daily Mail’s activities under its new editor, Geordie Greig.

Outlining how the paper has reacted to different Brexit moments since the new editor took over, Professor Barnett states: “Greig is taking the paper well away from the furious tub-thumping extremism embraced by Dacre.”

He also explained how editorial changes, in other papers as well, might be driven by their readers or from the top ownership, as well as brought attention to the fact that all circulations are in decline and that perhaps the traditional readership has become more diverse.

He concluded: “It is now clear that the vindictive and viscerally anti-EU Daily Mail of the Dacre era has been superseded by a rather more thoughtful version under Geordie Graig.”
