The student’s project was presented at the European Iron Club annual professional conference at Innsbruck, Austria. The presentation showcased the research into a new product technology that could create more effective iron supplements.
The four final year students involved in the research were Sasikka Chandramohan, Rameesha Malik, Rangina Ghafarzadeh and Sahra Musa. Petia Apostolova, who studies International Public Health Nutrition MSc, and Nishay Patel from King’s College London also contributed to the research.
The project was led by Dr M Gulrez Zariwala, who combined and co-ordinated the student research projects at the University of Westminster and King's College London.
On the conference, Dr M Gulrez Zariwala said: “Right from the outset the students were genuinely excited at the prospect of being involved in a collaborative research project. This was a complex multidisciplinary project involving a number of methodologies and in a short period of time the students not only demonstrated competence in skills, but also the ability to generate high quality results.”
The project was part of the students’ research project, which is a module taken during the students’ third year. The module was led by Senior Lecturer in Human Physiology Rumy Begum.
