Smoke Radio, the University of Westminster's on-campus radio station has been shortlisted for a number at the Student Radio Awards.

Smoke Radio websiteOut of the twelve categories in the awards, and hundreds of entries, Smoke Radio features in five.

They are:

  • Best Newcomer -Darby Dorras
  • Best Live Event or Outside Broadcast -Smoke on Tour
  • Best Interview- Gary Pounder - Student Radio to Radio 1
  • Best Marketing & Station Sound - Smoke Radio
  • Best Speech Programming - 1UP

Judged by industry figures such as Steve Lamacq, this latest announcements continue the trend of Smoke's success.

The online station, which broadcasts from Harrow Campus has won a batch of awards since mid 2000. The awards are described as the "definitive celebration of student radio".

Over the years they've launched the careers of a number of house hold names such as : Scott Mills, Simon Mayo and Alex Zane.

The ceremony will take place at a prestigious London venue and this year will be presented by Fearne Cotton, Greg James, and Huw Stevens.

Says Matthew Linfoot, Director of Undergraduate Media Studies and Course Leader in Radio Production, "The awards is a great opportunity for making contacts, and is full of industry professionals, as well as other student radio stations".
