Keeping up to date with the latest developments in Forensic Teaching and Research, Caroline Smith and Linda Percy attended the 9th FORensic RESearch and Teaching (FORREST) conference at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge 24-26 June 2013.

Undergraduate students from the Department of Molecular and Applied Biosciences were able to present the findings from their final year projects:  Zuhaib Subhani (Biochemistry) presented his poster about the identification of plants through the DNA found in pollen and another poster about DNA extractions from fabrics by Usman Bux (Forensic Biology), Sajin Mubarakku (Biological Sciences) and Charlotte Bennett-Cadette (Forensic Biology) also presented. The projects were:
 
1. Recovery of DNA from coloured fabrics: A study into the effects of clothing dye contamination on the recovery and amplification of DNA. Usman Bux, Sajin Mubarakku, Charlotte Bennett-Cadette and Caroline Smith
 
2. Analysis of pollen samples using DNA barcoding. Zuhaib Subhani and Linda Percy
