The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment hosted the sixth annual speed interviewing and networking event supported by Women in Property south east (WiP)

Last month, Property and Construction students welcomed over 20 delegates from industry, including Savills, Wedlake Bell, Towergate, EDF and Shepher & Wedderburn LLP

Fifty students attended the event which aimed to build their confidence in job applications and interviews by providing them with the opportunity to get advice on their CV and to practice responding to interview questions with industry professionals from the property sector.

The event was set up in a 'speed dating' format where students saw four interviewers for up to five minutes answering interview questions and getting valuable feedback before moving onto the next. They then moved on to get CV advice from recruitment professionals and industry experts.

The evening ended with a networking session where students were able to speak with the industry guests who were considering the possibility for future opportunities for the right candidates. The event was jointly arranged by Fiona Alfred, Executive Director of Women in Property (WiP) and Iram Sial, Careers Consultant in the University’s Career Development Centre.

Commenting on the event Iram said: ‘It is a pleasure working with members of WiP who give up their time to come and meet our students and offer them invaluable interview practice and feedback.  This also serves as a great opportunity for our students to network with professionals in industry, gain sound advice and tips for building a career in Real Estate and in many instances has led to work experience and actual job interviews with the employers.

“WiP members also get a chance to network with fellow members and to build on their continued professional development as the newer and younger get to interview and build their experience. This is a great event for both University of Westminster students and Women in Property, to whom we are very grateful.’

The WiP members and volunteers came from a range of organisations including Wedlanke Bell, Shepher & Wedderburn LLP, Women in Property, Barr Gazetas, Savills, The Packer Partnership, GIA, Towergate Insurance, Landscape Architect, Savills, BE Design and EDF.

The next event for the Built Environment faculty will be the annual Property and Construction Networking fair in October.  Companies interested in attending should get in touch with Iram Sial on [email protected]
