UN Habitat is the agency in the UN which deals with human settlement and development, with a particular focus on urbanisation, social justice and sustainability.
As a partner university, the University of Westminster will be part of an international network of academic institutions that research and teach in issues surrounding human habitation, particularly in the global south.
The University was selected as a partner largely on the basis of the School's track record of working in developing countries, through the Max Lock Centre and other international partnerships.
UN Habitat noted that they wanted to work with the University of Westminster "on themes such as spatial planning for environmental change and risk, and sustainable architecture, settlements and cultural identity in a globalising world."
These are all issues covered by SABE in both research and teaching, in particular the MA International Planning and Sustainable Development and MA Architecture, Cultural Identity and Globalisation.
