The Rt Hon Harriet Harman MP, Shadow Deputy Prime Minister and Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, will give the 5th Annual British Journalism Review Charles Wheeler Lecture at the University of Westminster on Thursday 13 June.

The lecture will follow the presentation of the annual Charles Wheeler Award for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcast Journalism. This year’s award is being presented to Robin Lustig, distinguished reporter and former presenter of BBC Radio 4’s The World Tonight, in recognition of a long and illustrious career in radio journalism, on the World Service as well as the BBC domestic services. The award is determined by the British Journalism Review and was established in 2009 to celebrate the career and achievements of legendary BBC journalist Charles Wheeler.

This is the fifth year that the University of Westminster has hosted the prestigious lecture and awards ceremony. Previous speakers have been Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger, Mayor of London Boris Johnson, former director of communications in the Blair government, Alastair Campbell and the then BBC Director General, Mark Thompson.

Steven Barnett, professor of communications at the University of Westminster, said, “The University of Westminster is delighted to welcome Harriet Harman at a fascinating and pivotal moment in the relationship between politics and the media.

“The Charles Wheeler Award recognises the dedication and integrity of one of the country’s most brilliant journalists, and Robin’s long-standing commitment to broadcast journalism of the highest quality makes him a worthy winner.

Media passes are available upon request.
