Alongside a cohort of new graduates, the University of Westminster recognised the achievements of notable figures in architecture, business and science at the graduation ceremonies, which took place on 9-10 July.

The Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment named Angela Brady OBE Honorary Doctor of Letters, recognising her work for sustainable and inclusive architecture and design. Angela is an alumna from the Postgraduate Diploma Architecture Professional Practice (RIBA Part III) course and is the Architect Director of Brady Mallalieu Architects Ltd, an award-winning private practice she co-founded in London. In 2015, she received her OBE for services to architecture and education, and has been awarded the Women of Outstanding Achievement Award for Leadership and Inspiration and the Westminster Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award, amongst others. 

Renowned philanthropist Dr Majid AlSadi was also named Honorary Doctor of Letters by Westminster Business School for his contribution to improving the relationship between the Middle East and the UK in Higher Education. A Ph.D. graduate from Coventry University, he is the Chairman and CEO of Eastern Holding in Jordan, and has sponsored several scholarships and cultural exchanges between the Middle East and UK universities, including the Westminster AlSadi Changing Lives Programme.

Nutritionist Dr Margaret Ashwell OBE was named Honorary Doctor of Science by the Faculty of Science and Technology for her contributions to the field of Nutrition and her support and inspiration to Westminster students. She is the Founder and Chair of SENSE (Self-Employed Nutritionists Support & Enlightment) and has been the Director of Ashwell Associates since 1995, when she received her OBE for having served on the UK’s Food Advisory Committee. Dr Ashwell is a member of the advisory board of the Global Stevia Institute and is the creator of the Ashwell Shape Chart.
