Regent Street Cinema, which has close ties to the University of Westminster, screens indie and studio films as well as film adaptations, originals, remakes and event cinema. The team curate the very best new release films to ensure guests can watch the most gripping stories and hear from new voices.

The cinema has a rich history, and is the birthplace of British Cinema, being the first place in the UK to show moving image to a paying audience in 1896. The striking art deco auditorium is available for private hire events including screenings, lectures, workshops and Q&A panel events, making it a landmark venue for film, conveniently located just two minutes North from Oxford Circus.

After a six-month-long closure, Regent Street Cinema will present a wide range of titles in its new film line-up, commencing on Friday 25 June. These include the uplifting musical film ‘In The Heights’, based on the Tony Award winning Broadway musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda; the modern love story ‘Supernova’ starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci; BAFTA and Academy Award winner ‘Another Round’ starring Mads Mikkelsen and ‘Tove’, a biopic of the creator and artist of the much-loved Moomin characters, Tove Jansson.

Enhanced safety guidelines including social distancing measures have been implemented throughout the venue to adhere to government guidelines surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. The team at the Regent Street Cinema are committed to creating a safe and comfortable environment for all guests, including students and colleagues from the University of Westminster.

Talking about the reopening, Sophie Doherty, Content Manager at the Regent Street Cinema said: “Audiences have flocked back to UK cinemas with confidence and gusto, and we cannot wait to join the party. We are delighted to be able to offer such a strong and diverse opening line-up, from the rebellious but uplifting New-York-latin vibe of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘In The Heights’, to the heart-breaking celebration of love and loss in ‘Supernova’, where Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci simply astonish with their touching performances.

“Leave the hub-bub of Oxford Circus and Regent Street behind you as you walk through our doors, soak up the air conditioning, grab a drink, settle into your safeguarded seat and immerse yourself in the incredible stories on our big screen.”

Tickets cost £15 for adults, £13 for students and £10.50 for children. Colleagues and students from the University of Westminster benefit from exclusive discounts and can save an additional £2 off cinema ticket prices until 1 September to watch any film, at any time for £8.
