After successfully introducing What comes next? last year, the new employability event series is now back with a panel of recent Finance and Accounting graduates sharing their insights into career opportunities for second and third/final year Finance students. The event took place at Marylebone Campus on 28 October.

Westminster students engaging in What comes next? Finance event

The speakers included Priscilla Tortelli, Analyst at Alvarez & Marsal; Mario Ortega, Investment Banking Analyst at Evercore, and Taha Kaawan, Global Strategy AVP at Citi, all three having graduated from Finance courses; as well as, Princess Bright, Senior Operations and Strategy Manager at UBER; and Romelyn Batislaong, Senior Management Accountant Euromoney Institutional Investor, who both graduated from Accounting courses.

During the event, the Westminster alumni explained their career journeys and discussed how their experience at the University helped discover their own interests and find employment after graduation. They talked about their worries of finding jobs compared to the actual experience, while sharing advice on how to navigate career pathways. They also discussed how one can move from being a Finance or Accounting student to a highly skilled employment.

The event was co-organised by Westminster's Alumni Relations team, and Dr Handy Tan and Dr Jason Cheng, covering a range of questions before a Q&A session for students. Dr Cheng, Lecturer in Finance and Accounting at Westminster, served as the Panel Chair. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder, with extensive working experience in banking, securities and property sector.

Talking about the event, Alexandra Varga from the Alumni Relations Team said: “It is great to be back on campus to deliver events for our students and connect them with alumni who have not long ago walked in their shoes. The most valuable part of having in-person events again is being able to have an informal networking session post-event where students can ask alumni speakers additional questions, connect with them on LinkedIn and learn about internship or career opportunities. This has proven to be very successful and hopefully, it will open up opportunities for students and alumni going forward.”

What Comes Next? is aimed to share the knowledge and experience of recent graduates to help undergraduate students better understand the variety of opportunities and career fields after graduation.
