Professor Simon Joss has joined the Board of Directors of Ecocity Builders.

The non-profit organisation, which is based in California and globally engaged, continues to be pioneering and highly innovative in its work on sustainable cities. The Ecocity Builders website explains that it is dedicated to developing and implementing "policy, design and educational tools and strategies to build thriving urban centers based on 'access by proximity' and to reverse patterns of sprawl and excessive consumption".

Ecocity Builders was founded in 1992 by Richard Register, who published his seminal Ecocity Berkeley: Building Cities for a Healthy Future in 1987. Its work has included the development of the International Ecocity Frameworks and Standards, as well as organising the long-running biennial Ecocity World Summit conference series, the next of which is being held in Melbourne in 2017.
