Held from 7-9 September, the second edition of the Bharat Nutraverse Expo was organised by the Shellac and Forest Products Export Promotion Council (SHEFEXIL), under India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The event brought together government representatives, international delegates, industry leaders, researchers and exhibitors from India and around the world to explore the future of the global nutraceutical sector.

Professor Zariwala presented the mission and work of the Centre for Nutraceuticals, highlighting its science-led approach to ingredient and supplement validation, product innovation and development. He also joined an international expert panel for the session titled Where West Meets East: Innovation Rooted in Tradition, which explored how traditional knowledge and modern science can work together to support innovation in the industry.

The event highlighted the importance of scientific evidence, safety and consistent regulations as the health supplements industry becomes increasingly global. Representatives from India's food regulatory system discussed the country's rules for health supplements and the importance of working with other countries to align standards.

Professor Zariwala’s return to Bharat Nutraverse builds on the Centre for Nutraceuticals’ growing international engagement and its work to bridge academia, industry, governments and regulatory bodies. Through research, validation, product development and international collaboration, the Centre supports the development of science-led approaches to nutraceuticals, supplements and functional foods.

The Centre’s international engagement also contributes to the University’s wider commitment to research that turns findings into practical solutions, global partnerships and real-world impact in health and wellbeing.

About the event, Professor Zariwala said: “Just a year after its inception, Bharat Nutraverse has firmly established itself as a leading platform shaping the nutraceutical sector worldwide. Representing the Centre for Nutraceuticals and the University of Westminster at an event of this calibre is a distinct honour that highlights our position as a global leader in nutraceutical innovation.”

The Centre and Professor Zariwala’s work directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3: Good Health and Wellbeing and 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
